In view of the dynamics and developments inherent to contemporary society, its Founders felt the need to reflect on the scope of the Foundation's activities, always ensuring that this process followed the statutory definition and the spirit that presided over the creation of the Foundation. Thus, during 2019, the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation carried out a reflection with a view to (re)defining the scope of its activities in light of social dynamics and evolution, always taking as a reference the spirit of the founding origins, especially the desire and intention of its Founders.
The aim was to interpret the Founders' wishes in light of contemporary society, with its dynamics and developments, seeking to fulfil their wishes, as well as to involve and enthuse the new generations of the Founders' Family so that they can fully identify with the Foundation and, therefore, by remaining close, contribute to the achievement of its objective.
Following this reflection, which involved the Founders' Family and the Foundation's Governing Bodies, lines of action were defined in 2020 that converged, alongside the area of Education, in strengthening Social Solidarity, especially in supporting the elderly and combating loneliness and social exclusion, as well as in supporting the creation of knowledge and intervention in the area of Biodiversity, thus ensuring the anticipation of the future and the promotion of intergenerational solidarity that guarantees a sustainable horizon for new generations.
